Former Ohio State TE Cade Stover Reacts to Michigan’s Sign-Stealing Scandal – cgnews24 News

Cade Stover Michigan: The Netflix documentary “Untold” has shed light on the Michigan sign-stealing scandal involving Connor Stalions. For many, it was an eye-opener. However, former Ohio State tight end Cade Stover wasn’t surprised. Stover, now a rookie with the Houston Texans, experienced the effects of the sign-stealing firsthand.

Stover’s Firsthand Experience

When asked if he watched the documentary, Stover made it clear he didn’t need to. “No, I knew enough about that bullshit as it was,” he told Landry Locker. Stover’s response highlighted his personal experience with Stalions’ sign-stealing tactics during his time at Ohio State.

Stover recalled a specific moment that stood out. In a game against Michigan, Ohio State attempted a tight end screen play using a new formation. Despite it being a brand-new setup, Michigan’s defense immediately identified and called out the play.

“We tried to throw a tight end screen in a formation we’d never used before, like ever,” Stover explained. “As soon as I lined up outside, we had one play where I was going to motion back in, and [C.J. Stroud] was going to throw a screen to me. When they start yelling ‘screen’ when you’re throwing a tight end screen, that’s when you know. It’s like, ‘What the f— is this? We’ve never run this before.’”

The Sign-Stealing Scandal

Connor Stalions, formerly a staff member at Michigan, has been at the center of the controversy. He is accused of orchestrating a sign-stealing scheme to gain an unfair advantage over opponents. The NCAA is investigating the allegations, and Michigan recently received a notice of allegations from the governing body.

Although Stalions resigned before the 2023 matchup between Ohio State and Michigan, the scandal continues to stir discussions about fairness in college football. Stalions had been involved in advanced scouting methods, which included illegally collecting and recording opponents’ signals.

Stalions’ Current Role

Since resigning from Michigan, Connor Stalions has taken on a new role. He is now the acting head coach at Detroit Mumford High School. Head coach William McMichael, who recently suffered a mild stroke, is being temporarily replaced by Stalions. McMichael praised Stalions for his leadership during this period.

The Bigger Picture

The sign-stealing scandal has far-reaching implications for college football. It raises questions about the ethics of competitive advantage and the lengths teams might go to in order to win. The ongoing NCAA investigation could lead to significant changes in how college football programs operate and enforce rules.

Conclusion

Cade Stover’s reaction to the Michigan sign-stealing scandal reflects a broader concern within college football. As the NCAA continues its investigation, the focus will be on ensuring fair play and upholding the integrity of the sport. Stover’s firsthand experience and candid comments offer valuable insight into the impact of such controversies on players and teams.
