Miraculous Journey Cat Travels Over 900 Miles Home After Going Missing in Yellowstone
Rayne Beau, affectionately pronounced “rainbow,” was lost on June 4 while his owners, Susanne and Benny Anguiano, were visiting the Fishing Bridge RV Park in Wyoming. Startled by an unknown disturbance, Rayne Beau darted into the surrounding forest, prompting his devoted owners to search tirelessly for him. “My husband is my hero because he went every day into the forest for hours looking for him,” Susanne shared.
Despite their best efforts to lure him back with his favorite treats and toys, the couple had no choice but to leave Yellowstone without him, a heart-wrenching decision they described as feeling like abandonment. “That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him,” Susanne recalled.
Two months later, on August 4, the couple received a notification that a cat matching Rayne Beau’s identification number had been found in Roseville, California—approximately 190 miles from their home in Salinas. It’s unclear how he traveled that distance, but the journey from Yellowstone to Roseville totals over 1,000 miles.
After being rescued by a kind-hearted woman, Rayne Beau was taken to the Placer Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The organization confirmed that he was in poor health upon arrival, but they were optimistic about his recovery.
“Every day, I look at him and am so grateful,” Susanne expressed. “I tell him, ‘Do you know how many weeks I had been praying to see that face again?’” The couple, who had previously adopted Rayne Beau and his twin sister Starr as kittens, even welcomed a new feline friend to keep Starr company during Rayne’s absence.
This heartwarming reunion serves as a powerful reminder of the benefits of microchipping pets. Leilani Fratis, CEO of the Placer SPCA, emphasized, “We hope everyone will see the benefits of microchipping their pets.” Thanks to this small but crucial measure, Rayne Beau’s remarkable journey ended in a joyful reunion with his loving family.
