Miraculous Reunion Cat Travels Nearly 900 Miles Home After Going Missing in Yellowstone

Rayne Beau, a beloved house cat from Salinas, California, was lost during a trip to Yellowstone in early June. Startled by an unexpected noise, he bolted into the dense woods, leaving his distraught owners searching frantically for him. They spent the rest of their trip scouring the area, even getting lost themselves, while laying out his favorite treats and toys in hopes of luring him back.

During their desperate search, a Yellowstone employee warned Benny that a pack of coyotes had attacked a small dog nearby, casting further doubt on Rayne Beau’s fate. “We had to leave without him,” Susanne recounted. “That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him.”

As they drove away, Susanne spotted a rare double rainbow in the sky. This beautiful sight filled her with hope and became a symbol of her belief that Rayne Beau would find his way back home. Little did she know that 60 days later, her wish would come true.

On August 4, the couple received a notification from PetWatch, a pet microchip registry service, informing them that Rayne Beau had been found in Roseville, California—over 800 miles away from where he had vanished. A kind-hearted woman discovered him wandering alone in the street, realized he was a lost pet, and took him to a local shelter.

Despite his harrowing journey, which left him weighing just 8 pounds—down from his healthy 14—Rayne Beau was safely reunited with his family. “He was really depleted,” Susanne said, “probably didn’t have a lot of energy to even go further.” Now, back in the comfort of his home, Rayne Beau enjoys playing with his twin sister, Starr, and regaining his strength.

The Anguianos remain curious about how their adventurous cat managed to navigate such a long distance. Benny hopes someone will recognize Rayne Beau and provide more clues about his extraordinary trek. “We hope someone will hear our story and remember seeing him,” he said.

This remarkable reunion serves as a reminder of the importance of pet safety measures. “Definitely microchip your cat or your pet and register the microchip online,” Susanne advised. “We would have never gotten him back had that not happened.”

Now equipped with a global tracker for future adventures, the Anguianos are ready to embrace their next camping trip—with Rayne Beau safely by their side.
