National Teachers Award Urfana Amin: Urfana Amin, a dedicated educator from Srinagar, has been selected for the prestigious National Teachers’ Award. This award is one of the highest honors given to teachers in India, and it recognizes the outstanding contributions of educators to the field of education. Urfana Amin will be felicitated by the President of India on Teachers’ Day, September 5, in New Delhi.

Urfana Amin resides in Bhagat-e-Shoor Lal Bazaar, Srinagar. She is currently serving as a master grade teacher at Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Soura. Her selection for this national honor is a testament to her dedication and hard work in the education sector.

Out of the numerous applicants from across the country, Urfana Amin was one of the 50 distinguished teachers selected for this prestigious award. The selection process was rigorous, with 154 teachers initially shortlisted before the final 50 were chosen. This achievement highlights her exceptional skills and contributions as an educator.

In an interview with Greater Kashmir, Urfana expressed her gratitude towards her friends and colleagues who encouraged her to apply for the award. She credited their support as the driving force behind her decision to apply. Urfana also expressed deep gratitude to her family, particularly her in-laws, husband, and children, for their unwavering support throughout her journey.

“My family, husband, and children supported me in every way possible. Being away from home for the cause of education is the biggest support I receive from my in-laws,” she shared. Urfana emphasized that her husband has been her strongest supporter, providing her with every possible resource and encouragement. Her children have also been understanding and accommodating, allowing her to focus on her work.

Urfana Amin’s journey to the National Teachers’ Award involved a detailed selection process. The criteria for applying for the award included 90 points for performance and 10 points for objectives. She explained that the performance section was further divided into three categories and five sub-categories, each requiring evidence of her contributions and achievements.

“The applicant must have something to show and explain for each category and subcategory,” Urfana said. Publications, educational videos, and other contributions are carefully evaluated before a teacher is selected for this award. The national team assesses the work done for children at various levels, including Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Children With Special Needs (CWSN). Applicants must provide evidence to support their work in these areas.

As part of the final selection process, Urfana, along with the other 49 teachers, participated in an interview with the national jury. During this interview, she delivered a 10-minute presentation to defend her nomination for the award. Following the presentation, there was a question-and-answer session where she further explained her work and achievements.

Urfana Amin has been actively involved in education since 2002, when she was recruited as a General Line Teacher (GLT). Since 2007, she has focused on various educational components, including working with Children With Special Needs (CWSN). She has developed expertise in Braille and has made significant contributions to the education of children in Kashmir.

In addition to her teaching role, Urfana has served as a National Resource Person and is a member of the All Jammu and Kashmir Modern Educational Resources (AJMER). She has also completed a course on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) from NCERT, which she has implemented in Kashmir with great success.

Urfana Amin’s selection for the National Teachers’ Award is a proud moment for her, her family, and the entire community in Srinagar. Her dedication, hard work, and commitment to education have been recognized at the national level, and she continues to inspire others with her passion for teaching.
