Pune Heavy Rains: Yellow Alert Issued in Maharashtra as Thunderstorms Expected from Aug 17 to 21

Pune Heavy Rains: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Maharashtra, warning of rain accompanied by thunderstorms from August 17 to 21. The alert is based on the prediction of a low-pressure area forming over the west-central Bay of Bengal by August 19, which is expected to move west-northwest, impacting regions including Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

In Pune, rainfall is expected to intensify from August 18 to 21, with the city experiencing partly cloudy skies and occasional sunshine. However, moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in the afternoons, with some periods of heavy rainfall possible. The Ghats are expected to face even stronger winds, more intense rain, and frequent thunderstorms.

Residents are urged to exercise caution during this period, avoiding standing in open areas or under trees during lightning. The IMD’s yellow alert serves as a warning to be prepared for potential weather disruptions.
