Whoopi Goldberg Says She Quit The View If She Had Enough Money, Calls Out Grocery Owners as “Pigs”

Whoopi Goldberg Says She Quit The View: Whoopi Goldberg, a long-time co-host on The View and one of the most recognizable faces on daytime television, revealed she would walk away from the popular ABC show if she had enough money. During Tuesday’s Hot Topic segment, Goldberg, who has been part of The View since 2007, spoke candidly about her financial motivations and connection to working-class struggles. Despite an estimated net worth of $60 million, Goldberg shared, “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here. So, I’m a working person, you know?”

At 69, the Color Purple and Sister Act star has spent years balancing her career with providing for her family. She acknowledged the struggles many Americans face, highlighting her personal responsibility to support her great-granddaughter and family members. “I know it’s hard out there,” she added. Goldberg also praised Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her advocacy, aligning with AOC’s focus on economic issues that affect working families.

Backlash Over Comments on Grocery Prices

Goldberg recently faced backlash from the National Grocers Association (NGA) following her criticism of grocery prices. Addressing rising costs, she argued that grocery store owners, not solely the government or the Bidens, were to blame, remarking, “Your grocery bills are what they are because the folks that own the groceries are pigs.” Her comments sparked immediate criticism from the NGA, which represents over 21,000 stores across the country.

In response, NGA President and CEO Greg Ferrara penned a letter to The View’s executive producer, Brian Teta, calling Goldberg’s remarks “deeply troubling” and “harmful” to frontline workers in the grocery industry. Ferrara stated, “Statements that falsely depict grocers as ‘gouging’ not only exacerbate these tensions but also risk further harm to these frontline workers who have continued to serve the public through challenging times.”

Goldberg’s remarks have since stirred public debate, as many viewers relate to her concerns about affordability while others question her criticism of small business owners amid complex economic pressures.
