Ukraine says it recaptured village near Bakhmut
War between Russia and Ukraine: In June, Kyiv started retaliating against Moscow’s soldiers in the south and east of the nation.
A town close to the war-torn city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk area was retaken by Ukrainian troops on Thursday, many months after they launched a grueling counteroffensive against well established Russian fortifications.
In June, Kyiv started retaliating against Moscow’s soldiers in the country’s south and east after assembling Western weaponry and enlisting assault battalions.
“In the Bakhmut area, we are making progress. The adversary is making an effort to retake lost territory on the northern flank. We are advancing on the southern flank, stated Deputy Defence Minister Ganna Malyar on social media.
Andriivka is now ours, which is fantastic news. We are strengthening our positions, she continued.
After one of the bloodiest and longest engagements of the Russian invasion, Bakhmut, a town previously inhabited by some 70,000 people, was taken by Russian troops in May.
However, Ukrainian troops started retaking the city’s northern and southern edges almost immediately and have been making small but steady advances.
The pre-war population of Andriivka, which is about 14 kilometers (9 miles) south of Bakhmut, was less than 100, according to estimates.
