Herschelle Gibbs Suggests Aiden Markram Should Focus on Drinks Duty Amidst Poor Form in T20 Series

Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has taken a dig at current team captain Aiden Markram, suggesting that he might be better off focusing on handing out drinks in the remaining matches of the ongoing T20 series against India. With the series currently tied 1-1, Markram’s form has been under heavy scrutiny, especially given his struggles in the T20 International format this year.
Aiden Markram’s T20 Struggles
Markram, who has been enduring a difficult year in T20 Internationals, has scored just 212 runs in 16 matches without a single half-century. In the first two games of the four-match series against India, Markram could only manage a combined total of 11 runs, further adding to concerns about his current form.
Gibbs, who was speaking on social media platform X, humorously remarked that Markram should focus on “carrying drinks” for his teammates during the remaining two high-pressure games. His light-hearted jab comes after South Africa managed to win the second match of the series by 3 wickets, despite Markram’s poor individual performance.
T20 Series Tied, but the Pressure is On Markram
The ongoing T20 series between India and South Africa is currently tied 1-1. India won the first match by 61 runs, while South Africa bounced back to win the second match by 3 wickets. With the third T20 match being played in Centurion, both teams will look to take the lead and secure an advantage ahead of the final match.
Gibbs added that the upcoming games should be high-scoring affairs, acknowledging that the series could go either way at this point. Markram has been struggling to find consistency, and with only two matches remaining in the series, he has a crucial opportunity to get back into form ahead of South Africa’s next challenge – a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting on November 27.
A Crucial Time for Aiden Markram
With his performances under the microscope, Markram has an opportunity to end the year on a high note. His struggles with the bat in the T20 series have raised questions, but Gibbs believes that the upcoming matches provide Markram with a chance to regain his rhythm and boost his confidence.
As the series continues, all eyes will be on Markram to see if he can deliver the performance South Africa needs, or if his tough run of form will continue to haunt him in the final two T20 matches against India.
