Rishabh Pant Should Be RCB’s Top Target in IPL 2025 Mega Auction, Says Aakash Chopra

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has weighed in on the upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction, stating that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) should set their sights on wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Pant, who was recently released by Delhi Capitals, is expected to be a key player in the auction, and Chopra believes that RCB should consider investing heavily in him.

RCB’s Auction Strategy and Rishabh Pant’s Potential

Chopra, in a recent discussion on his YouTube channel, suggested that RCB could look at Pant as an ideal option for the upcoming season, especially given the team’s need for a wicketkeeper-batsman and potential captaincy options. While Delhi Capitals still have the right to match (RTM) card to retain Pant, Chopra feels that RCB should not hesitate to bid aggressively for him.

“Rishabh Pant is in the auction, and I believe RCB should go for him. Even if it takes ₹25 crore, it could be worth it,” Chopra said. He emphasized that Pant’s aggressive batting style would be well-suited to RCB, particularly on smaller grounds like those in Bangalore, where his attacking game could thrive. Chopra believes that Pant could play a key role for RCB, either at the top of the order or at No. 4, providing stability and firepower in the middle overs.

RCB’s Financial Position and Auction Plans

RCB has a significant amount of money left in their auction purse, with ₹83 crore still available for the 2025 auction. The franchise has already retained key players like Virat Kohli (₹21 crore), Rajat Patidar (₹11 crore), and Yash Dayal (₹5 crore), and they are now looking to strengthen their squad further. Chopra pointed out that a wicketkeeper-batsman, along with leadership qualities, would be a vital addition to the team.

“RCB is in need of a captain and a wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant could be the perfect fit for both these roles,” Chopra added. The presence of Pant could also help address the team’s leadership void, with the young player showing potential as a future leader in the IPL.

RCB’s Other Options: KL Rahul?

While Chopra is clear about his support for Pant, he also mentioned the possibility of RCB exploring other options like KL Rahul.
