New York Woman Sues EgyptAir for $5 Million After Scalding Beverage Burns Her on Flight to Cairo
New York Woman Sues EgyptAir: A New York woman has filed a lawsuit against EgyptAir for $5 million in damages, claiming she suffered severe burns after a scalding beverage spilled on her during a flight from John F. Kennedy Airport to Cairo. Esraa Hezain, 35, alleges that the incident, which occurred in February 2024, resulted in second-degree burns to her lower abdomen, right inner thigh, and buttocks.
According to the Brooklyn federal court documents, Hezain was served tea in a “lidless cup” that fell from a “defective” seat tray when the plane encountered “significant turbulence.” The lawsuit claims that EgyptAir’s flight crew failed to halt beverage service or warn passengers about the turbulence, leading to the accident. Hezain’s attorney, Abram Bohrer, pointed out that the incident could have been prevented with something as simple as a lid on the cup, emphasizing the severity of the burns suffered by his client.
As of the latest update, EgyptAir has not responded publicly to the lawsuit.
This case is reminiscent of a 2019 incident in Florida, where a four-year-old girl was awarded $800,000 after suffering second-degree burns from a scalding McDonald’s Chicken McNugget. The legal battle over that case lasted for years, culminating in a jury verdict that offered some compensation to the family.
