Brampton Hindu Temple Attack: Arrests Made After Pro-Khalistani Mob Assaults Templegoers Amid Rising Tensions
Brampton Hindu Temple Attack: In a disturbing incident, a pro-Khalistani group attacked templegoers at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, Ontario, on November 3, 2024, escalating concerns over religious safety in Canada. Peel Regional Police have now arrested another individual linked to the violence. Inderjeet Gosal, a 35-year-old Brampton resident, has been charged with assault with a weapon. According to police reports, the violent clash involved physical altercations with flags and sticks, leaving multiple individuals injured. Gosal, arrested on November 8, was released on conditions and is expected in court soon.
The assault was captured on video, with footage showing intense confrontations near the temple grounds. A video shared by commentator Daniel Bordman has gone viral, sparking outcry over alleged excessive police force, with witnesses accusing officers of assaulting Hindu community members. Tensions heightened as crowds chanted and called for the police to retreat. Peel Police announced that investigations are ongoing, with a Strategic Investigation Team actively working to address any further criminal actions.
The Indian government condemned the attack, calling it an “act of extremism” and urging Canadian authorities to protect places of worship. The Indian High Commission expressed disappointment over repeated disruptions at Hindu religious sites, noting recent similar incidents in Vancouver and Surrey. This attack comes amid rising diplomatic tensions between Canada and India following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims of India’s involvement in the 2023 killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar—allegations India has strongly denied. As Canada faces pressure over handling pro-Khalistani movements, this latest incident has only deepened the ongoing strain.
